This is only the beginning, as Jia struggles as a new don of a dying legend. Even death wouldn't stop him in his pursuit for power. But as the corrupted law and rival syndicates begin to rise against him, Jia amazes them with his strategies and intelligence, defeating them multiple times into their dirty graves. It is in this bloodshed that he discovered his life, to "live and let die", as the way of the yakuza. Gradually, he requires more help in his pursuit and runs into various men: Metsuki Taito, an experienced yakuza who only chose this road to support his then pregnant wife; Araya Mikkie (Ryo), who came to him as a boy from the U.S. seeking to never belong in society; Gabriel Kishien, a half-white, half-Japanese young lawyer with the ambition to see Jia succeed; Makino Junpei, a young medical doctor who was introduced to Jia by Toki (and eventually lost his license); Tachimine Aoki, an ex-con who was released from prison due his previous activities with 36 moons (he was in the syndicate before Jia became don); Matso Aya, a very young political spy and expert from an Okinawa syndicate; Ryuunen Akio (Teru), an ex-cop who was once the head chief of the police; and Tachimine Joryu, who doesn't appear in 36 Moons but its sequel "Fate", as the young son of Aoki.
It is after they prove their loyalty, they were hired as the heads of 36 Moons, and from there the story begins.
Pay the blood, show your loyalty, prove your worth. But all he did was drive a car. That was his original intention, drive a car for the most powerful oyabun of the country and leave it at that. But war does not care for your original intentions, and blood began to stain his hands.
A lost innocent that wanders in the parallel world of dark deeds, he stumbles and finds a temporary light in his best friend turned lover, Miyabi. Like a moon to guide him through the black, Joryu breaks one of the worse taboos in a crime syndicate and falls in love. He forgets all else, and pays attention to his one treasure in a world of hate and pain.
Blood, loyalty, worth.
He did not intend to lose it again, so he left his heart behind. He left his soul behind and gave the rest away.
Blood, loyalty, worth, and life.
Where there were eight, there are now nine — For the King of the Universe.
This is what Araya Mikkie attempts to store away, but for how long? Having been with the 36 Moons since he was 17, Mikkie had made a name for himself as the ghost of the syndicate, the one who looks like glass but would sooner kill anyone labelled an enemy before their blood dropped onto the floor. Driven to prove his worth over his physical stature, he was feared by many and praised by the best. He had even found someone who loved him.
His love interest, however, also happened to hurt him in one of the deepest ways possible.
Years passed by, and though his anti-social behavior and reasons for dislike kept him from forgiving the one who had done him wrong, he eventually gives in to his own feelings and realizes he had been more in love than he thought. That is, until another comes into the picture and attempts to gain the affections of the ghost of the 36 Moons.
His emotions now being split two ways, and still maintaining his cold outward demeanor, the young yakuza has a lot on his mind, not to mention the occasional syndicate rivalries and near-takeovers.
Then the phone call came.
From the simple job of picking up mail and answering calls, Anthony stumbles into the crime world, unprepared and unknowingly until it’s too late for him to turn back. His new employer? One, Jia Li.
Now working for the most powerful crime syndicate in the world, Anthony begins to take on his Japanese name as he works beside the most feared. But nothing seems extraordinary to him, the sight of blood makes him cringe but he feels no disgust.
Hanazawa Kazuya, born and bred into the world of Tribulations.
All his life, Toki has been nothing but if devoted to Jia’s cause. To the syndicate, to the empire, to the name of the 36 Moons and more importantly, to himself.
Always known as the one who can get away with it all, we turn an inward eye into the man who seems to be a lot less then he really is. Chain smoking, hard drinking, fast lifestyle is all anyone has ever known of Toki and that’s the way he likes it.
